Buildings & Grounds Assistant (P/T)

The Arkell Museum and Canajoharie Library Building & Grounds Assistant is responsible for maintaining and monitoring facilities, fixing and problem-solving building issues, and maintaining professional relationships with necessary contractors.
The Head of Facilities and Buildings & Grounds Assistant are the first line of security and represent the Library and Museum to outside contractors.
Responsibilities:
Building & Grounds
  •  Help with annual and daily maintenance, and repair work
  •  Suggest and help maintain suitable supplies, tools, and equipment
  •  Help monitor and maintain HVAC systems; help keep daily logs of temp and humidity
  •  Help keep walks clear of snow and ice; help mow gated garden
  •  Provide information for and help oversee annual state, local, and fire inspections
  •  Help maintain inventory records for OSHA compliance
  •  Help with event set up and break down
  •  Respond to emergencies as required
Security
  •  Help monitor and maintain security systems, cameras, and monitors
  •  Help oversee the work of security contractors
  •  Respond to security alarms as per designated on call list; maintain accurate call records
  •  Assist with art handling and moving as requested

Desirable Experience
  •  Demonstrated building maintenance experience
  •  Ability to read and explain blueprints, basic operating instructions, and safety data sheets
  •  Familiarity with workplace HVAC and security systems
  •  Good oral and written communication skills
  •  Must demonstrate ready aptitude for new information, skills, and assigned responsibilities
  •  Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including but not limited to Excel, Word, and Outlook

Physical Demands
  • Must be able to stand and walk comfortably for long periods of time
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, and climb ladders as required
  • Must be able to lift and move 50lbs

Overview
  • This position averages 15 hours/week; the pay is $14.00/hour
  • This position requires occasional evening and weekend hours
  • Regular work schedule will be determined by the Executive Director, Head of Facilities, and successful candidate
  • This position requires a background check and reports to Head of Facilities
