How do I get a library card? The Canajoharie Library is part of the Mohawk Valley Library System. All libraries in the Mohawk Valley Library System require a barcoded library card in order to check out materials. You may obtain a library card at the library with a valid photo ID (Driver's License, Benefit Card, Passport, etc.) and proof of address. There is no charge for a library card, however if a replacement card is issued the fee is $2.00

Once you have obtained your library card you may use it at any Mohawk Valley Library System library in Fulton, Montgomery, Schoharie, and Schenectady county. You may also use your card at any Southern Adirondack Library System library. Please note some restrictions apply, each library has the right to limit access to non-resident library users.

How do I renew items I have out?
All materials may be renewed with the exception of New Items, and items with a waiting list. Renewals may be made in person, by telephone (have your library card number ready) or from your home computer by accessing your record through the library catalog.

Can I get an item from another library sent to Canajoharie?
Inter-library loan requests may be placed in person at the library, or from home through our online catalog. If accessing your account online, your pin number is the last 4 digits of your telephone number. Materials outside of the Mohawk Valley Library System may also be available with special arrangements by the Library Assistant.

Do I have to return my items to the Canajoharie Library?
No! You can return items to any library within the Mohawk Valley Library System and the Southern Adirondack Library System.

Do you accept donations of books?
Yes! Much of our collection is comprised of donated books, movies, and music. We accept any book, music, or movie in good condition with the exception of: Reader's Digest condensed books, text books, multi-volume encyclopedias, VHS, Cassettes, and magazines. We also accept gently used popular board games for our children's and teens collection. Request a receipt at the time of donation to claim your items on your taxes as charitable donation.

Who buys the books, and how do I recommend one?
Library materials are selected by the librarian. If you have a title you think the library should own, contact the library and she/he will evaluate if it would fit into our collection. Patrons may also choose to Adopt-A-Book to add to the library collection.

What do I need to do to present a program at the library?
If you have a program that you think people in the community may be interested in and would like to present it at the library, contact us at 518-673-2314 to propose your program. If you are looking to rent space in the museum to hold a presentation information may be found on the museum's website.
